Workshops.

John-William offers repertoire workshops, based around their 2021 duet work ‘I Would Like to Go Over There’. Taking the dancers through a mini creative process they explore Watson’s stage work practically, delving into their ethos in a performative, and as always, playful context.

The workshop can be suited for both professional and pre-professional dancers.

So what do we do?

The workshops are an extension of John-Williams classes and working practice. Similar to their class structure the workshops begin with guided improvisation as John-William facilities the search for a sandbox-like vocabulary, where any random movement, image or gesture can be used to create a cohesive (and often comedic) vocabulary.

They then share repertoire of the work, taking the participants through the physical ideas and specificities the original cast explored throughout creation. After learning the repertoire (a physically random, fun, and highly musical uni-solo) they then facilitate a creative task; guiding the dancers in creating their own ‘going over there’ dance from the original work.  It is an opportunity to play within the world of the work, get silly, random and musical whilst tapping into the creative subconscious.

The workshop is an opportunity for dancers to play, get silly and to practice random and instantaneous movement generation; delving into John-William’s distinct and comedic physical world.
