Classes.
John-William regularly teaches contemporary classes based around their movement practice. The classes are ‘professional classes’ meaning the tasks and class structure is the same process which they use within their creative process.
The classes however can be suited for both professional and pre-professional dancers.
So what do we do?
The classes focus on two main movement ideas; committed musicality and physical randomness. Through guided improvisation John-William facilities the search for a sandbox-like vocabulary, where any random movement, image or gesture can be used to create a cohesive vocabulary - exploring the movement language and ethos used within their work.
The entirety of the class is based in improvisation and is accompanied by anything from New Orleans jazz to stupidly obtuse classical music. John-William sees it as an opportunity to play with musicality and spontaneity; void of any reason, specific form or outcome.
